Use of a calculator as a reasonable accommodation
Using a calculator can be a reasonable accommodation for students whose disabilities impact their mathematic computations.
ODE approves using a basic, four-function, non-graphing calculator for class assignments, quizzes, and exams.
However, this accommodation may be considered unreasonable if using a calculator fundamentally alters the course objectives. In such cases, ODE asks instructors to notify the student’s ODE consultant as soon as when the student requests this accommodation. The consultant will then contact the instructor to discuss the matter further.
