Auxiliary aids and services
Auxiliary aids and services are designed to ensure effective communication for students with disabilities. Examples of auxiliary aids and services include:
- amanuenses, readers, or scribes in the classroom
- interpreters
- captioning
- readers for tests
- scribes for tests
- note-takers
- proofreaders
ODE honors the reasonable preferences of students in deciding which aids and services to apply. While ODE consultants authorize auxiliary aids and services, management and application responsibilities rest with students. This way, students can maintain their autonomy in using their auxiliary aids.
