Media Arts
The Media Arts Equipment Room services students enrolled in the Media Arts Program at the 猎奇重口. We have a large selection of gear that includes 4k cameras, both LED and hot lights, and audio mixers and microphones. We also have gear dedicated to interactive and installation work.
In addition to a well-stocked equipment room, we also have a Production space, Editing Lab. Audio Production and Mixing Studio, Graduate Student Lab, Gaming/Animation Computer lab and a e-sports Studio
Studio Arts
SVMA facilities are extensive, spanning five buildings across the UM campus. Our facilities include over a dozen large studio classrooms, computer labs, film production studios, an e-Sports gaming center, multi-media studios, lecture/seminar classrooms, five students galleries, soundstage, resource library, and many material-specific workshops.

The undergraduate painting area is anchored by two large studio classrooms with nearly 8,000 square feet of space. With natural light, high ceilings, and movable walls for flexibility, both are equipped to handle a wide range of projects. Our area has its own well-equipped woodshop, large spray-booth, flat files, and painting storage. Adjacent to the classrooms are semi-private BFA studios for BFA students. Lockers are provided to all enrolled students.

The printmaking studio maintains a safe well-ventilated work environment and has adopted non-toxic materials and methods across the various processes. We maintain eight high-quality presses in addition to other professional-grade equipment in support of relief, intaglio, lithography, and screenprinting which includes a large Takach Etching press; large electric Glen Alps etching press; Griffin Etching press; Armstrong press; Conrad press; 2 large Griffin lithography presses and a Praga Lithography press. We have an assortment of large Rollers including 10”x36”; 14”x24” and numerous 4”x18”. The screen area is equipped with several Vacuum Frames, Lighted washout booth and a 30”x40” Exposure unit. Students have access to a clean room for matting and framing. Jim Bailey and Jason Clark teach in printmaking.

Photography facilities are of professional quality and extensive. They include a critique classroom, Macintosh digital lab with Adobe Creative Suite software, Black and white darkroom, Non-silver darkroom, alternative process lab, special-projects darkroom, matting and mounting room, large format Epson printing room, and semi-private BFA and MFA studios. A professional photographic lighting studio is equipped with Profoto 4-head power pack, monoheads, variety of Profoto softboxes and lighting modifiers, an overhead track system, a curved cyc wall, and various backdrops. Other equipment includes archival print washers, scanning stations, battery-powered location lighting kits, precision panoramic cameras, mounting presses, and access to an array of cameras and accessories including: Holgas, Lensbabies, medium format Mamiya,4x5 view cameras, and pinhole. The Ceramics program features 5675 square feet of large, open workspace, with dedicated wheel throwing and hand building areas. Adjacent BFA, graduate and visiting artist studios provide a dynamic exchange between students and artists at all levels. In addition, clay mixing rooms, an outdoor sculpture yard, slip casting area, and an exhibition space add to our comprehensive facilities. Our indoor Kiln room features 11 gas and electric kilns; and our outdoor, covered kiln area features five salt, soda, updraft, and an oversized (180 Square foot) downdraft car kiln. At 225 square feet, the large Anagama kiln commences a week-long firing every term in the Lubrecht Experimental Forest 35 minutes from campus. Sculpture is anchored by a 4,500 square-foot ventilated, open-plan studio classroom, an equally large outdoor sculpture yard, a small gallery, and a work area at the University experimental Lubrecht Forest site. Graduate and BFA student semi-private studios are adjacent to the classrooms with access to all equipment.
Metal Fabrication Area: MIG, TIG, ARC, Plasma Cutter, Oxy-Act rigs, Vertical Metal Band saw Chop Saws, Sanders, Industrial Sand Blaster, hand tools, pneumatic tools, Ventilated welding tables, grated cutting tables, auto darkening hoods, leathers provided.
Wood Shop Area: SawStop Table saw, Planer, Joiner, Spindle, Band saw, Belt sanders, Sliding compound miter saw, Panel saw, Saw horse sets, hand tools, and power tools.
Wax/Shell Room: Industrial wax double boiler with faucet, metal surfaces, grated surface, plaster bin, plaster table, wax sheet molds, wax sprue molds, cabinet storage, drying rack with fans, divided ventilated dusting cabinets, all appropriate hand tools.
Mold-making Area: 200 lb. capacity Cement Mixer, 100 lb. capacity Cement Mixer, sand storage, Resin drum station, heavy-duty molding table, 10’ x 8’ x 2’ storage shelves, Chemical storage cabinet, all appropriate personal safety gear, 10’ x 10’ rolling 2-ton gantry, pallet jack, straps, banding machine, mold clamps, core wash sprayer, overhead bay door to level concrete outside.
