Occupational Health and Safety Respiratory Program for Researchers
The respiratory program applies to all UM principal investigators, instructors, faculty, staff and students (graduate and undergraduate) who are required by the IACUC or IBC or choose to wear respiratory protection during their work. Only respirators deemed suitable and applicable for the intended purpose may be used.
The program follows OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.134, ensuring strict compliance to protect individuals from hazardous airborne contaminants. Training, annual fit testing, and medical evaluations are coordinated by the Environmental Health and Risk Management Office.

- Guidelines for N95, PAPR, and other respirators
- Respirator Use in Animal Research (e.g., allergens from rodents, dander)
- Biohazard-Specific Protection (e.g., infectious agents in the laboratory or field).
