Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure
If an IBC protocol involves work with any human or non-human primate blood, fluids, cells, tissues, or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). Bloodborne Pathogens training is required by all personnel on that protocol. Bloodborne Pathogens training is required annually. ()
Exposure Control Plan
Please direct all questions to Biosafety Officer Linda Hicks (IBC@mso.umt.edu).
The 猎奇重口 (UM) Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan is provided to eliminate or minimize the exposure of all UM employees and students to human blood or human blood products that might contain bloodborne pathogens. This plan is in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogen standard 29 CFR 1910.1030.
Bloodborne Pathogens Training
In 1991, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) , 29CFR 1910.1030 was passed to protect workers from this risk. The standard mandates that employees who may come into contact with human blood or tissue as part of their job duties be provided with Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) training on an annual basis.
All employees and students at UM who are at risk of contacting human bloodborne pathogens while performing their jobs or research are required to have annual BBP training.

Required Forms
Risk Assessment Form
The will help evaluate the possible health risks due to animal exposures and occupational hazards. A Risk Assessment Form is required before work on a project can begin and triennially there after.
Annual Medical Review
The helps identify additional risks of an individual basis. For example, participants who are immunocompromised or are pregnant may have additional exposure risks. The questionnaire is confidentially reviewed by the Occupational Health Nurse. Annual Medical reviews are required if you have a change in your health status after you have completed an initial risk assessment and annually during the first two years there after.
