Course Search
To see which courses are being offered in the upcoming semester, use the Course Search tool to find specific sections.
This tool includes detailed information, such as the location, day, time, and instructor of a section.
Our recommendation is to limit the number of filters you use. If you use too many filters at once, there may not be any search results that match all of the parameters you entered.
Search Tips
-
Find a Specific Class
If you have a specific class in mind, you can search for it using the Subject and Course Number search filters in .
Subject
First, click the Subject field. A dropdown menu will appear, allowing you to select a course subject. Begin typing the name of the subject, for example "Psychology" or "Anthropology," until the desired option appears. Click on the subject once it appears.
Course Number
Click the Course Number field. The course number is the short number following the subject, for example "101" or "270E." Make sure to only type the course number in this field and not the subject.
Some course numbers end with a letter that represents a general education requirement. If no results appear, try adding the % symbol at the end of the number, for example "270%." This symbol acts as a wildcard in case there is a letter after the number you are searching for, for example "270E."
Note that the course number is different from the 5-digit CRN (e.g. 30012 or 71517).
Once you are satisfied with your selection and have adjusted the other filters as needed, click the Search button at the bottom of the menu to generate results.

Find Online Classes
Option 1 - Recommended
To find online courses, use the Campus/Course Location search filter in .
Click the Campus/Course Location field. A dropdown menu will appear, allowing you to select locations.
The two online "locations" are Distance Learning - UM (UM Mountain Campus) and Distance Learning - MC (Missoula College).
Some online Missoula College classes are restricted to Missoula College students only. If you are a Mountain Campus student running into a campus or college restriction error for a Distance Learning-MC class, reach out to the instructor to inquire about getting a registration override.
Once you are satisfied with your selection and have adjusted the other filters as needed, click the Search button at the bottom of the menu to generate results.
Option 2
Find online courses using the Online/Attendance Method search filter.
Click the Online/Attendance Method field. A dropdown menu will appear, allowing you to select specific attendance methods. You can select multiple.
Course modalities that are compatible with online-only status include:
- Online delivery requires that 100% of the course is offered completely asynchronously online, with no face-to-face interaction between instructors and students required.
- Synchronous Remote delivery is a course section offered through scheduled (synchronous) video conferencing. A course delivered through synchronous remote delivery may have a F2F classroom location where students may choose to attend.
- Limited On-Site delivery is a course in which 80% or more of the required instruction (but not all) can be completed via online delivery. Instruction not provided through online delivery must require only concentrated, short-term, on-site experiences and/or internship, clinical, or practicum experiences that may be completed near a student’s location.
Once you are satisfied with your selection and have adjusted the other filters as needed, click the Search button at the bottom of the menu to generate results.

Course Modalities
Course modalities are the methods by which courses are delivered to students. Modalities marked with an asterisk (*) are compatible with online-only status.
Face-to-Face
Face-to-Face (F2F) delivery is a course designed for fully in-person synchronous attendance, with at least 80% (or more) of the scheduled course time occurring within the physical classroom. Coursework and resources may also be completed/available via the campus’s LMS.
Online*
Online delivery requires that 100% of the course is offered completely asynchronously online, with no face-to-face interaction between instructors and students required.
Synchronous Remote*
Synchronous Remote delivery is a course section offered through scheduled (synchronous) video conferencing. A course delivered through synchronous remote delivery may have a F2F classroom location where students may choose to attend.
Blended
Blended delivery is a course delivered partially online in an asynchronous format and partially through face-to-face (F2F) interaction, typically in the classroom. Both online and F2F interactions are required for the course with 20-80% of the course’s instruction offered online. This delivery is characterized by the expectation of reduced F2F class meeting time when compared to the equivalent credit classroom course.
Limited On-Site*
Limited On-Site delivery is a course in which 80% or more of the required instruction (but not all) can be completed via online delivery. Instruction not provided through online delivery must require only concentrated, short-term, on-site experiences and/or internship, clinical, or practicum experiences that may be completed near a student’s location.
Hybrid-Flexible
Hybrid-Flexible or ‘Hyflex’ delivery is a course where students may choose to attend either in an assigned face-to-face environment or in an asynchronous online environment (remote synchronous may also be available). In-class meetings will be regularly scheduled, with a minimum of 50% of the weekly contact hours required for a face-to-face course.

University Catalog
In preparation to register for classes for the upcoming semester, review the General Education requirements and your major requirements in the University Catalog.
The Catalog also lists all of the University's course offerings by subject. Not all courses in the Catalog are offered every semester.
Academic Departments
If you see a course offering listed in the Catalog but do not see it listed in Course Search, this means the academic department did not create a section of the course for that semester. To inquire about when the course will next be offered, contact the department chair, admin, or advisor for more information.
