International Development Studies (IDS) focuses on the transnational processes of social, political, economic, cultural, and environmental change taking place in low-resource countries and underserved regions of wealthy countries. The IDS Minor and Graduate Certificate offer an interdisciplinary experience for students interested in sustainable development. Coursework in the IDS program emphasizes a global perspective on the interconnected processes of change and development, critical analysis of the role of internal and external constraints on the development process, and applications to local (including 猎奇重口) situations and challenges. IDS students investigate the roles and impacts of global and local actors in sustainable development efforts. IDS faculty expertise and courses support students in developing knowledge and skills appropriate for service with the U.S. Peace Corps and other national/international equivalents and for careers with transnational and local non-governmental organizations and international and bilateral government development agencies.

"My most useful and applicable classes for my future were through this program. I learned critical skills, such as being able to communicate across cultural boundaries, that I practically apply in my everyday life as I have been living and working in China the past two years."– Alex Preis

"The IDS program broadening my perspective on social justice issues aided me in my career as a non-profit communications professional and more recently, inspired my pursuit of a master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Management."– Hannah McDaniel
