About
Winter on the 猎奇重口's Oval brings much fun and excitement. From ice skating to sitting by a crackling fire in the Adirondacks we invite you to come and enjoy all we have to offer.
Skating on the Oval is a beloved winter tradition. Weather and conditions depending, we invite folks to enjoy a skate. UM's Ice Rink is a community, self-monitored ice rink.
A new addition to the propane fire pits with Adirondack chairs for individual or group enjoyment are the new UM Ice Domes. These domes are free to use, but if you want to warm up a bit more you can rent a heater from the UC Gaming Den between 4pm and 8pm! Fire pits will be lit Thursday's 11:30am-1:30pm for free public usage starting Jan. 30th through early spring.
Looking to drop a puck or play some broomball? We have designated hours for this! Every Friday and Saturday from 4pm to 6pm we will open the rink up to hockey and broomball play/practice. The same rules will still apply as indicted by the Ice Rink Rules
Ice Rink Status: CURRENTLY CLOSED!
Don't have any skates - no worries, the University Center's Gaming Den has daily skate rentals available. Looking to host a private event at the ice rink or fire pits - we do that too. Contact Conference and Event Services at - 406-243-4119 to discuss the options. We ask that folks make private reservations no less than 72 hours in advance to ensure that we have the facilities ready for your group. To check for upcoming reservations, open skate, and fire pit lightings, check this page again at a later date.
Community Standards for Our Self-Monitored Rink
At UM, we recognize the transforming experiences that students have outside of the classroom are just as important as the learning that happens inside the classroom. We want our students - along with the campus and Missoula communities - to safely engage in making memories, building connections, and being a part of the Griz Family. So, we ask you to follow the Ice Rink & Fire Pit Rules and be respectful partners in this endeavor.
All skaters are encouraged to maximize your experience here and have fun! However, we insist that all skaters practice safe and courteous skating. If you are a good skater, help to make others better skaters, watch your speed, stay in control and have fun! We have a zero tolerance for any on or off ice activities that disrupt or may lead to unsafe and dangerous situations. Please use common sense at all times, and keep in mind this is a rough surface pond style rink.
The use of the ice-skating rink and all its facilities have an inherent risk and any participation is totally at the users own risk. No responsibility is accepted or undertaken for the well-being of the user or their property.
Sponsors
We want to thank the Knife River Corporation for be a financial sponsor for the ice rink. Our students and this entire community benefit tremendously from the ways in which we can collaborate, partner, and build community together.
