This degree option leads to a 42-credit graduate degree that is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and prepares students for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential.
Students are prepared to work in a variety of careers in the public and private sectors, such as community organizations, hospitals, and state or local health departments. Graduates have demonstrated competency in assessing needs; planning, implementing, administering and evaluating health promotion programs; and serve as a health promotion resource and advocate. Courses in the degree option are delivered in a prescribed sequence to a cohort of full-time students. The blend of on-line and on-campus courses makes the option attractive to students who want an on-campus experience that provides more in-person opportunities to work collaboratively with faculty mentors. The concentration is of interest to new public health practitioners and students recently graduated from undergraduate programs.
