What originally inspired you/your family to choose the UM Pre-Law Program?
I joined the pre-law program as soon as I found out about the opportunity from my advisor. I’ve known I wanted to be an attorney since I was 14 years old, so I chose my undergrad programs with that goal in mind. The pre-law program provides students with resources and information about the law school experience that I believe any college student interested in the field of law should take advantage of.
Which aspect(s) of the UM Pre-Law Program contributed the most to your success in matriculating at the law school of your choice?
Meeting with Professor Le Bihan on a regular basis was incredibly helpful. By having constant mentorship and accountability, I was able to meet my application deadlines and goals with confidence. It’s important to have someone guide you through the application process, and her wisdom provided me with the keys to success.
Which aspect(s) of the PLP would you say contributed the most to your career success?
The program emphasizes finding your “why” before you even apply to law school. While I understood the importance of knowing why you wanted to be an attorney, it wasn’t until I started law school that I realized my “why” was, and still is, the lifeboat in the middle of the storm. I’m so grateful the program provided exercises in discovering and truly believing your purpose as an attorney. This journey is not an easy one, but it is so fulfilling for those who feel called to the legal profession.
What aspects of the campus culture at UM helped you successfully prepare for applying to law school?
The faculty at UM were incredibly supportive. Professor Le Bihan was an amazing accountability partner, and she held me to a standard that was worthy of law school admission. The professors who came and spoke to us during the pre-law seminar were so knowledgeable and helpful. My advisors did everything in their power to make sure I had challenging and successful semesters in preparation. All around, I felt like the faculty was cheering me on to academic and professional success.
Is there any advice you would offer prospective students considering joining the UM PLP community?
If there is any part of you that might be interested in law school, you should absolutely join the program. If you’re on the fence, definitely do it. The pre-law program will either give you the push you need to pursue your dreams, or it will confirm your doubts before you spend thousands of dollars on a degree that you don’t actually want.
