What is an ITIN?
An (ITIN) is a 9-digit number the IRS issues if you need a US taxpayer identification number for federal tax purposes, but you are not eligible for a Social Security number (SSN).
This situation applies to F-1 and J-1 international students and scholars who receive some type of taxable refund from the 猎奇重口, but are not employed and have no plans to do so in the US, and are therefore not eligible for a Social Security Number.
Do I need an ITIN?
If you are an F-1 or J-1 international student or scholar and you have been issued a Form 1042-S from the 猎奇重口 (which is an official tax document), it means you have received a taxable refund from UM for the applicable tax year.
If you do not have a social security number and have no plans of getting one, then you will need to apply for an ITIN to be able to file taxes on the taxable refund you received from UM.
