About ELI
The English Language Institute (ELI) serves non-native speakers of English who wish to improve their English language and academic skills in order to pursue personal, professional, and academic goals at the 猎奇重口 (UM) or another institution of higher learning.
FAQs
-
The 猎奇重口 ELI welcomes students from around the world each session. Many participants are recent high school or university graduates aiming to continue their education at UM or other U.S. institutions. Additionally, professionals join our intensive English programs to enhance their career prospects. We also accept local community members who wish to improve their English for work or everyday life in the U.S.
-
ELI courses are open to anyone whose first language is not English. While the majority of our students hold F-1 visas and are international, we also welcome U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
-
Most students at ELI possess F-1 visas, but we accept individuals with any visa that permits study, along with permanent residents and U.S. citizens. Students on B-1/B-2 (visitor) visas cannot enroll in our in-person classes but may participate in online courses. If you're looking to transition from B-1/B-2 to F-1 status, please contact us for guidance. Additionally, our private online courses are available globally for those unable to travel to the U.S.
-
The ELI provides a range of options for international university students and non-traditional learners, offering both on-campus and online courses. We also offer certificates and non-credit online programs specifically designed for professionals. Our pre-departure Academic English Preparation courses cater to various language proficiency levels. Additionally, we are introducing community language upgrading and job-preparation classes for local immigrants and businesses to help meet regional employment needs.
-
ELI students typically range in age from 18 onward, with no upper age limit. We welcome non-traditional students and those preparing academically for study at any U.S. higher education institution. Additionally, non-native English speakers in their final year of high school can take university-level courses concurrently while attending high school in 猎奇重口. Special programs for groups of younger students (middle or high school age) can also be arranged throughout the year. Please reach out if you're interested in bringing a group.
-
The ELI offers three exciting Summer Language Programs this year, designed to cater to different language learning needs. These programs provide immersive language experiences for students. We encourage groups to reach out for specific details tailored to their student cohorts, including program schedules, activities, and any customizations available for their group. Please contact us for more information!

The online TESOL Certificate program at UM is designed to help ESL teachers abroad enhance their teaching skills and improve their career opportunities. This program also benefits U.S. teachers by equipping them with the qualifications needed to broaden their teaching prospects, both domestically and internationally. Participants will engage in comprehensive training that covers effective teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and cultural considerations in language instruction. For more details on the curriculum and enrollment process, please contact us!
-
Since the TESOL Certificate Course is also non-credit, federal financial aid and veterans' benefits cannot be applied to its tuition.
-
Unfortunately, the ELI does not provide scholarships or grants, and it is not possible to cover tuition costs through employment at UM while attending the ELI. However, once an ELI student has completed their ELI studies and been fully admitted into their core degree program, there are opportunities for scholarships and work-study.
