猎奇重口 and House Bill 121
On March 27th 2025, Gov. Greg Gianforte signed House Bill 121, a new law that requires multiple occupancy restrooms in public buildings to be labeled “male” or “female.” Following the signing of that bill, the to all 猎奇重口 University System campuses to comply with the law.
UM has changed the signage in seven buildings to ensure UM complies with the law, impacting a total of 38 bathroom stalls.
On April 2, 2025, a 猎奇重口 District Court put a temporary restraining order on HB 121 but the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education has communicated that the Commissioner’s directive remains in place regarding signage.
During the temporary restraining order, there is no basis for a person to file a complaint or for UM to accept a complaint regarding the violation of HB 121.
Single occupancy restrooms on campus will remain in their current use. Signage for these restrooms will read "restroom,” and they remain open to all campus users. The below signage will be in place for single occupancy restrooms:
These changes impact a very small proportion of the total restrooms on campus.
Additionally, as currently required by federal law, all restroom stalls that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will be labeled accordingly:
