Overview: The Student Teaching Application Process

1. Attend a Student Teaching and Graduation Application Information Seminar. This will provide an overview of the student teaching clinical experience and review the application process. Plan to attend an information meeting during the semester one year prior to your student teaching semester (for example, if you plan to student teach autumn semester 2023, attend an Information Meeting during autumn semester 2022). Contact the Office of Clinical Experiences for specific dates.

2. Download The ÁÔÆæÖØ¿Ú Student Teaching Handbook.

3. Open the appropriate application(s) from the links below. Complete the application(s) according to directions. Save. NOTE: Students interested in completing an out-of-state or an international student teaching assignment must have a minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 and two recommendations. Requirements and information are available from the Office of Clinical Experiences.

4. Submit the completed application(s) with supporting documents to the Office of Clinical Experiences by the applicable due date:

Student Teaching Application Deadlines: 

* If the deadline falls on a weekend or UM holiday, applications are due the next UM business day.

In addition to the main application, secondary and K-12 students must select the applicable major and minor content requirement forms below. Please note that handwritten applications will not be accepted, therefore you need to download, save, and type in the forms provided.

Special Education

Special Education Student Teaching Application -This application is for licensed teachers seeking a special education endorsement through a traditional student teaching experience
Special Education Intern Application - This application is for licensed teachers currently working as special education teachers who wish to add a special education endorsement to their current license.

Students requesting an Out-of-State placement have additional requirements. Please review the following packet for those requirements.

Out-of-State Student Teaching Requirements

International Student Teaching Applicants

Students requesting an international student teaching placement should consult with the Office of Clinical Experiences at least one year prior to student teaching, as opportunities and requirements frequently change. Students will complete a placement in the United States prior to an international placement. The additional requirements listed for Out-of-state student teaching also apply to candidates wishing to student teach internationally.
