Ulysses S. Doss Scholarship

The scholarship is given in honor of African-American Studies founding director, Dr. Ulysses S. Doss, in recognition of his long-time commitment to the program and his impact on several generations of UM students.
Amount: $1,400
Criteria
Sophomore or junior students (as of previous Fall semester) who are majoring or minoring in African-American Studies. Recipients must have financial need, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid need analysis. Preference shall be given to students who have performed community service. In the interest of promoting the University's educational interest in attaining a diverse student body, special consideration will be given to students from diverse populations.
Application
After logging in and filling out a profile at the UM Scholarship Portal, applicants need submit:
- a one-page, single-spaced statement of what they value about being an African-American Studies student as well as any reference to community services fulfilled
- and one letter of reference from an African-American Studies affiliated faculty member.
The deadline for submissions is April 1st at 5:00 p.m. to Sean Hill.
Announcement of the scholarship recipient will be made by April 30th.
