Residency Requirements
Residency for tuition purposes for all new undergraduate students (new first-time and newly readmitted) is determined by the Undergraduate Office of Admissions, based upon the established by the 猎奇重口 University System's Board of Regents. All applicants are classified as either in-state or out-of-state based on information submitted on the application for admission ("initial residency classification"). The Office of Admissions may request additional information to make this determination.
New students who wish to claim in-state residency but did not do so on the application, or students who disagree with the residency decision they received at the time of admission, have until the final application deadline for the term of admission to submit a request for residency review. Request for review must be submitted to the Office of Admissions. A student can request review by submitting a residency review request via the Admissions Change Form on the Admitted Student Checklist or by emailing admiss@umontana.edu.
In those cases where Admissions has completed additional review and upheld its out-of-state decision, students will have the right to appeal to the campus level. New students and newly readmitted students must start the appeal process with the Undergraduate Office of Admissions. The deadline for a new student to submit a residency appeal to the Admissions Office is the Friday of the first week of classes for the term of admission.
UM Admissions manages the residency process for new and newly admitted students through the student's Admitted Student Checklist. Students seeking residency review or appeal should log in to their Admitted Student Checklist to complete required forms, submit documentation and check their residency status. UM evaluators will use email to communicate with the student about their residency.
