How did you come to work at your organization?
Throughout my social work career, of nearly 20 years, I've always worked with our most vulnerable citizens within agency settings. I came to Many Rivers Whole Health over 11 years ago, after leaving Eastern 猎奇重口, to be closer to family.
What do you appreciate most about supervising practicum students?
Practicum students challenge and inspire me in my continued growth so I can facilitate recovery for people with super-challenging behavioral health conditions.
What does being a social worker mean to you?
Being a social worker means an opportunity to influence and contribute to people's lives, empowering them to become their best selves. I'm blessed to be in a career rooted in empathy, social justice, and compassion.
How does your role as a social worker relate to your role as a supervisor?
The core values of social work assist with creating equity in the workplace for employees and recipients of services. It is through this lens and as a supervisor, I've been attuned to mentoring supervisees to find their own voice in the profession.
What is the most important thing you hope your practicum students take with them into their careers?
Is it too cliche to say, "Have fun?" This career is full of rewards and obstacles. If you have fun while continuing your commitment to the field, you'll embrace every step along the way as a learning opportunity and reduce burn-out. Challenge yourself and do something creative every day.
What is your favorite quote that exemplifies social work?
"Be good to yourself. Not pitying or indulgent, but well and truly good. Feel your emotions and validate them. Acknowledge your limitations and be proud of what you manage to do in spite of them.
