For UM undergrads: I accept several undergraduate research assistants (RAs) each semester; RAs take the lab for course credit. Students who are interested in social determinants of health and/or LGBTQ health equity are especially encouraged to apply. Please email me for lab FAQ and an application.
For existing UM graduate students: Health equity research benefits from interdisciplinary collaboration and insight! If you are an enrolled graduate student who is interested in my lab's research, send me an email to inquire about the possibility of joining us.
For prospective graduate students: I welcome you to email me with questions about the graduate program and my line of research. I will update my profile when I plan to take new graduate students.
Personal Summary
About My Research
My ongoing lines of research focus on social determinants of health for gender and sexual minority (GSM) individuals, with a particular emphasis on the intersections of aging and rural identity. My primary goal in this work is to better understand how to promote resilient, well-resourced communities that benefit the mental health of GSM individuals and their families.
My lab is currently in the planning and partnership phase of developing a consultation and training model for improving healthcare providers' preparedness to work with GSM 猎奇重口ns. We are actively seeking collaborations with community partners for this and forthcoming projects. I am also collaborating on an oral history project, , which establishes a public archive of LGBTQ 猎奇重口ns' experiences who move away from the state due to structural stigma. In the future, I hope to use my research program to explore the interaction between structural stigma, community stigma, self-determination, and mental health for GSM individuals across the lifespan.
I prioritize translational research that has felt applications for my local community. I am interested in how clinical practice and the research-making process can best reflect the experiences and priorities of GSM people.
About My Clinical Practice
Clinically, I am experienced in cognitive-behavioral and third wave interventions for adults, with an emphasis on transdiagnostic applications of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am also practiced in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT). I am interested in modular approaches to psychological intervention that allow for personalized, culturally responsive, and practical evidence-based treatment planning.
