MISSOULA – The annual sponsored by the 猎奇重口 School of Journalism will feel new this year. Instead of a standard lecture, the school will screen “The Wonder and the Worry,” a documentary profiling the careers of two photojournalists, former National Geographic editor Chris Johns and his daughter, UM alumna Louise Johns.

Free and open to the public, the event kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in the University Center Theater. The photojournalist duo will take questions and visit with attendees following the film.

The documentary chronicles both Johns’ work and the evolution of photojournalism and magazine publishing.

As Film Daily wrote, “From Chris’ humble beginnings amidst Oregon’s rural landscapes to his ascendancy to the editorial helm of National Geographic, and Louise’s navigation of the contemporary photojournalism landscape, the film immerses viewers in the complexities of storytelling amid digital disruption and commercial imperatives.”

Both talented photographers have roots at UM. Chris Johns is this semester’s Pollner Distinguished Professor, teaching a class focused on shooting complex social issues. Louis Johns is a graduate of the UM School of Journalism’s undergraduate and graduate programs.

“We have been so lucky to get to know both Chris and Louise over the years as photographers, journalists and colleagues,” said Lee Banville, a professor and director of the School of Journalism. “This year’s Dean Stone event will let the public meet and learn so much more about these extraordinarily talents and compassionate people, and I cannot wait to sit down with both of them to discuss the film and their work.”
