Procedure for Retiree Privileges Policy (810)
Effective Date: N/A
University employees will receive certain privileges effective upon retirement. Only the retiree will receive these benefits; such benefits will not transfer to any other individual. A spouse or other family member will not inherit the benefits upon the death of the retired employee. However, the spouse may continue the privileges for a one year grace period following the death of the retiree.
ELIGIBILITY FOR RETIREE PRIVILEGES- For 猎奇重口 Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) or Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) members, to qualify for UM retiree privileges, the employee must elect to receive their PERS or TRS pension immediately following the date of termination of employment.
- For TIAA members, to qualify for the privileges, the employee must be at least age 50 with at least 5 years of TIAA participation at termination of employment.
- “Retiree” and “Lifetime Retiree” privileges do not include Faculty/Staff Tuition Waiver.
RETIREE VS. LIFETIME RETIREE
There are two levels of retiree privileges. Those who qualify as retirees based on the above eligibility will be classified as
- “Retirees” if they worked less than 15 years at the 猎奇重口
- “Lifetime Retirees” if they worked 15 or more years at the 猎奇重口.
PROCEDURE
- The Department of Human Resource Services will notify the Griz Card Center when an employee has ended employment and qualifies as a retiree with privileges.
- After receiving their final paycheck, the retiree should go to the Griz Card Center to replace their current Griz card with a new card that indicates their status as either a “Retiree” or Lifetime Retiree”.
- The Griz Card Center will have access to years of service information for the retiree,
- Check with the GRIZ Card Center as to the Retiree GRIZ Card fee.
