Martin Luther King Jr. Day at UM
Dear Campus Community,
As we embark on Spring Semester 2025, I invite you to pause and reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Today, our nation honors Dr. King, his work and his enduring vision of justice, equity, and appreciation for all people, by all people. At the 猎奇重口, we strive to embody his principles through our shared commitment to fostering a more inclusive and service-oriented world. Dr. King’s words and actions remind us that change requires courage, persistence, and collaboration; that we all have a part to play in working to understand our past and improve our future.
UM has long embraced this work. From faculty creating innovative, inclusive learning experiences to student-led initiatives that amplify diverse voices, the spirit of Dr. King lives on in the everyday actions of our University community. As our nation and our campus honor Dr. King’s legacy, we are reminded that there is still work to be done.
As part of this continued work, I am pleased to invite you to our upcoming President’s Lecture Series event featuring noted poet, author, and 2024 MacArthur “Genius Grant” winner Jericho Brown on Thursday, Feb. 6th. Hosted in the ALi Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., Brown will speak about The Art of Dreaming: From Langston Hughes & MLK to 2025 during this free public lecture.
At UM, we recognize that advancing the teachings of Dr. King are not bound to a single day; instead, it is the cumulative work of individuals and communities committed to the hard but necessary journey toward greater understanding and shared humanity. As we enter this new semester, let us carry forward Dr. King’s call to action forward in all we do.
